About the performance

Traditional street theatre meets high-energy street dance, as Taxi! takes us on a comic journey through the hurly-burly of urban London seen through the eyes of a London cabbie and his motley selection of passengers. The work, set in, around and on top of a taxi, fuses parkour, contemporary and hip-hop dance, as the performers switch between characters and costumes.

Outreach and Educational Work

There has not yet been any outreach or participation work surrounding this particular performance. However, Avant Garde Dance are very experienced in this area, running many specifically commissioned workshops for schools and youth organisations. During 2010 AGD completed 2 residences at Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth working with 100 local young people and producing a new site specific work and a new theatre piece. Since January 2009 AGD have been running Avant Garde Youth Company who have recently performed to critical acclaim as part of Refresh at The Place and will be performing the same work at this years Breakin Convention Festival at Sadlers Wells. We have recently completed a residency in Birmingham with local company Tru Street where we integrated them into our production 'Illegal Dance'.

Company History

Remarkable Productions -

Remarkable Productions are producers of innovative, multidisciplinary outdoor events and festivals, incorporating theatre, circus, dance and music. Since its inception in 2005, Remarkable Productions has built a strong reputation as a producer of high quality outdoor arts events in the UK. RP has managed the production of Paradise Gardens and o2 London Mela and have worked as producers of artistic projects with Nutkhut, Avant Garde Dance, Charlie Murphy, Central School of Speech and Drama to name a few.

In 2010, Remarkable were commissioned by Camden Council to produce the launch of the Kentish Town Swimming Baths and delivered on the artistic curation and production delivery of Molten Festival, Barking. Remarkable has supported all the outdoor work created by AGD and continues to develop and manage the tours of 'The Silver Tree' and 'Taxi!'.

Avant Garde Dance -

Avant Garde Dance began working with Remarkable Productions at Paradise Gardens, creating an outdoor, site responsive commission 'Attack on the Bandstand'. This lead on to a collabortion with Circus Space which saw the fusing of hip hop dance and Chinese Pole acrobatics. 'The Silver Tree' has since toured internationally including Watch this Space at The National Theatre and Valladolid, Spain.
AGD's latest outdoor piece, Taxi! is produced by Remarkable Productions and is already set to be a festival favourite having recently received support from the ACE Grants for the Arts scheme to develop the performance into touring work.

Remarkable Productions:
In 2010 alone Remarkable toured the Bar of Ideas to Glastonbury Festival (A unique performance venue designed for social environments at festival), delivered the launch of Kentish Town Sports Centre - working with Cocoloco, Jocelyn Pook and the GB Syncronized Swimming duo. Curated the outdoor arts programme at Paradise Gardens and produced a one-off collaboration with Emergency Exit Arts 'Wishful'. Remarkable were also the producers of a two-day outdoor arts festival in Barking Town Centre.
