About the performance
Taking an endearingly unorthodox and humorous approach to cultural identity, this multimedia solo performance sits somewhere between live art and physical theatre, and is the follow-up to visual artist Hetain Patel’s critically acclaimed theatre debut, TEN.
“I’m not sure anymore if I’m English or Indian What I do know is that I love Bruce Lee movies. Does that make me Chinese?” says Patel.

Illustrated talks that delve into the making process of this piece and my visual art practice that informs it. Highlights in particular working across art forms. Can be between 1-2hours.
Practical workshops exploring one’s individual’s voice in performance. This can cater for dancers, actors, musicians and anyone interested in exploring their performative voice. Can adapt from a 2 hour – 1 week workshop depending on context.

Company History
I have been a freelance visual artist since 2004, exhibiting photography, video and live art for art galleries nationally and internationally, including Tate Britain. In India my work is represented by Chatterjee & Lal, Mumbai. 2010 saw the debut of my first piece for theatre, TEN. In addition to an 18 date national tour including Southbank Centre and Royal Opera House, the piece has also toured internationally to Sydney Festival, Australia.
Recent Productions / Tours
TEN (2010/11)– Debut theatre piece produced by Dance4. 18 date national tour including Royal Opera House (as part of Firsts) and Southbank Centre as part of Festival of Britain. Additionally toured internationally to Sydney Festival, Australia.
To Dance Like Your Dad (2009/10)– Video installation commissioned by and premiered at New Art Exchange, Nottingham. Toured nationally to 5 art galleries including Waterman’s, London and internationally to IGNITE! Festival, New Delhi, India and Biografteatern Rio, Stockholm, Sweden.
